Refugee Committee Requests Scoring List for Turkish Cypriot Properties

The Parliamentary Committee on Refugees has requested the Director of the Turkish Cypriot Property Management Service to submit the scoring list for the allocation of Turkish Cypriot houses and commercial properties. Committee President Nikos Kettiros stated that this move aims to ensure transparency in the process, allowing applicants to understand the reasons for their selection or rejection. The Committee also discussed delays in subsidies for the cultivation of Turkish Cypriot land. Mr. Kettiros emphasized that transparency will strengthen public trust and proposed issuing a serial number for each application so that the results can be published clearly. He also referred to issues concerning commercial properties, mainly regarding the amount of rent, noting that the Service has done a good job in implementing the scoring. The Committee examined cases where rents increased dramatically, making some businesses unsustainable, and changes to the rental regime are expected. The goal is to find a balance that does not disadvantage either the displaced persons or the entrepreneurs. Mr. Kettiros assured that the scoring process is fair and that there are no problems at that level. The emphasis is on providing information to applicants so that they fully understand the criteria and the results of the evaluation.
