Return to School, Return to Decisions on Evaluation

With the return of students and teachers to schools after the Christmas holidays, attention is focused on the bill recently passed by Parliament regarding the implementation of the new teacher and educational work evaluation system. POED will meet on January 8th to determine its strategy, while OELMEK is also expected to discuss the issue in its collective bodies. OELMEK aims to conduct an in-depth study of the bill, taking into account the decisions of the Pan-Cypriot Conference, in order to formulate its position. At the same time, the Ministry of Education is proceeding with the implementation of the new evaluation system, which is expected to begin within January. The Regulations for evaluation have already been published in the Official Gazette, which provide for the establishment and operation of the Evaluation System Monitoring Committee, chaired by the Director-General of the Ministry of Education, and the Re-evaluation Committee, with the participation of the Educational Research and Evaluation Center of the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute and specialized experts. The decisions of the trade union organizations and the implementation of the new system are expected to shape the climate in the education sector in the coming period.
