Sanchez: War Against Iran is a 'Huge Mistake' - Stands in Solidarity with Cyprus

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has described the war waged by the United States and Israel against Iran as a 'huge mistake', reiterating his condemnation of the 'illegal intervention'. Sanchez stressed that Spain stands in solidarity with Cyprus, which is a victim of the war, and will help it, as it has done with other allied countries. Sanchez emphasized the need for 'loyal cooperation' in relations with the United States, but also the importance of pointing out mistakes, such as the war in Iran, which will have a cost for all. He expressed his respect for the presidency of the United States and American society, but stressed that threats and accusations are not the right way for relations between allies. Sanchez's statement comes at a time of intense criticism from Washington for his stance on the American-Israeli war. The Prime Minister of Portugal, Luis Montenegro, argued that Washington is an 'irreplaceable ally' for Lisbon, but agreed with the need for respect and equality in international relations. Sanchez and Montenegro stressed the importance of international law and rules in international relations, as well as the superiority of cooperation over antagonism.
