Scam via SMS Impersonating GESY in Limassol – Victim Loses Over €10,000

Cyprus Police are investigating a new fraud case in Limassol, where a citizen lost over €10,000 after receiving a deceptive SMS message purportedly from GESY (the state health services organisation). The citizen, misled by the message, visited a fake website and entered their bank account details, allegedly to renew their profile for €10. The perpetrators exploited this information and withdrew €10,010 from their account. The case is being investigated by the Limassol TAE Economic Crime Investigation Office. Police are warning the public to be cautious of messages containing links and to avoid entering personal or banking details on unknown websites. They also recommend verifying transactions through official communication channels of organizations and immediately informing their bank if banking details have been shared.
