Short Bursts of Exercise are the New Trend

New scientific research suggests that exercising in small, frequent doses may be more beneficial for health than intense, occasional workouts. Studies show that gentle daily movement improves cardiovascular function and reduces the risk of metabolic disorders, regardless of exercise intensity. The World Health Organization (WHO) emphasizes the importance of incorporating movement into daily life through frequent and small physical stimuli. Specifically, a review published in the “British Journal of Sports Medicine” highlights the positive impact of light physical activity on cardiometabolic health and glucose regulation. Also, research in the “Journal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle” shows that total physical activity, regardless of intensity, is associated with lower mortality and reduced risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer. Clinical dietitian Cleopatra Aresti points out that movement protects cardiometabolic health, even without significant weight loss, and that the WHO recommends total physical activity, not necessarily a number of steps.
