Significant Findings from the Ancient Port of Peyeia

This year's excavations at the ancient port of Peyeia have brought to light significant findings, including over 700 kilograms of amphora shards from the Late Roman period, dozens of inscriptions in red ink, and evidence of large port works from the time of Justinian. The research, conducted by New York University (NYU) in collaboration with the University of Cyprus and the Cyprus Institute, revealed that the amphorae were used to deliver marble blocks from Proconnesus and spindle columns for the basilicas of Akrotiri Drepanon. Simultaneously, the study of a carved tomb from the Hellenistic and Roman periods continued, where ceramics and Roman cooking utensils were found and are being analyzed for organic residues to better understand local dietary habits and burial rituals.
