The Israeli army announced that it killed six fighters in a firefight in Gaza on Tuesday, raising the previous death toll of two. According to the Israeli army, the fighters were spotted near Israeli troops in western Rafah and were killed in an exchange of fire, including airstrikes. The announcement emphasizes that the incident constitutes a violation of the ceasefire that has been in effect since October. Palestinians report that Israeli forces opened fire in Rafah. The ceasefire provides for the withdrawal of Israeli forces behind the 'yellow line', however the area beyond it remains under the control of Hamas. According to the Ministry of Health in Gaza, at least 165 children have been killed in Israeli attacks since the start of the ceasefire, while UNICEF reports at least 100. The Israeli army reports that fighters have killed three of its soldiers during the same period. Both sides accuse each other of violating the ceasefire.
