Somali Ambassador Expresses Confidence in UNFICYP Renewal

The Permanent Representative of Somalia to the United Nations, Ambassador Abukar Dahir Osman, expressed confidence that the renewal process of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) will proceed smoothly. He emphasized that the Security Council supports the Good Offices of the Secretary-General and seeks to strengthen the conditions for progress in the Cyprus issue through dialogue and the creation of an environment acceptable to all parties. Mr. Osman highlighted the importance of stability in the buffer zone and the stabilizing role of UNFICYP, while also referring to the need for de-escalation initiatives, such as Confidence-Building Measures. The renewal process will involve the examination of the Secretary-General's reports by the Security Council members, in order to determine how they can contribute to the continuation of the process.
