Former Queen Sofia of Spain has cancelled all her official engagements this week due to the deteriorating health of her sister, Irene. Irene, 83, is facing a serious health issue and has already withdrawn from public appearances, with the last being at her nephew's wedding in Athens in 2025, where she appeared in a wheelchair. Spanish magazine HOLA reports that Sofia, 87, wishes to remain close to her sister and Irene's health is declining daily. Irene has been suffering from cognitive illness for years, and Sofia has made it a priority to be by her side.
