Steady Growth of the Capital Market Under the Watchful Eye of the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission

The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) reports that the Cypriot capital market is showing steady growth, alongside European developments. 2026 is expected to bring significant changes to the capital markets of Europe and Cyprus, with the implementation of revisions to MiFID II/MiFIR, AIFMD II, UCITS, as well as the new MiCA and DORA regulations. These changes aim to increase transparency, protect investors, and strengthen digital resilience. CySEC expects the privatization of the Cyprus Stock Exchange (CSE) to strengthen its role as a platform for business financing. At the same time, there is an increase in the number of Investment Firms (CIFs) in Cyprus, with 253 companies already licensed and another 30 applications under consideration. CySEC will strengthen its supervisory controls and focus on the behavior of CIFs towards their clients. In the field of collective investments, Cyprus is also showing steady growth, with total Assets Under Management reaching €10.6 billion. The implementation of the MiCA regulation for crypto-assets is expected to further shape the investment landscape in 2026.
