Stilianou Death: Adjournment Due to Defense Shift – Responsibilities Sought After Seven Years

The hearing of the case regarding the suicide of 15-year-old Stilianou, which has caused great turmoil in Cyprus, was adjourned due to a change of lawyer by the 3rd defendant, a social welfare officer. The new lawyer, Viktor Akamas, requested time to study the indictment and the voluminous evidence. The case concerns Stilianou's suicide in 2019 and the search for responsibilities for the circumstances that led to it. The process has been delayed for seven years and the trial has started late. The judge, Pavlos Agapitos, accepted the adjournment but set a new hearing date for March 17, emphasizing the need for a speedy development of the case. Four witnesses will testify at the new hearing. The case has aroused great interest and has highlighted issues related to child protection and the effectiveness of social services.
