Stricter Framework for Summer Schools and Childcare Centers Approved by Parliament – What Changes

Parliament unanimously approved two bills that tighten the framework for the operation of summer schools and childcare centers. The aim of the regulations is to ensure the health and safety of children, as well as to improve the quality of services provided. The first bill, submitted by AKEL, amends the Private Schools Law, so that the Ministry of Education conducts inspections of private schools operating as summer schools, just as it does with regular private schools. The second bill, also from AKEL, amends the Law on Child Protection and Employment Centers, strengthening the control and inspection mechanisms of these centers. The amendment concerns the clarification of the elements checked during inspections, such as compliance with operating conditions, the employment of qualified personnel and the suitability of the facilities. These amendments aim to strengthen the supervision and control of structures that accommodate children during the summer months, ensuring the provision of quality and safe services.
