Supreme Court Lifts Sykas's Immunity

The Supreme Court decided to lift the parliamentary immunity of Nikos Sykas, following a complaint from his partner regarding assault, which was subsequently withdrawn. The court justified the request of the Legal Service, ruling that the offenses are serious and require immediate investigation. Despite the withdrawal of the complaint, the Legal Service maintains its position that the case should continue. Mr. Sykas's lawyer raised questions about the possibility of proving the offenses without the complainant's testimony, while the Assistant Attorney General emphasized that case law and the law allow the case to proceed even without it. Simultaneously, a court order was issued prohibiting the MP from approaching the victim.
