Surge in Childhood Illnesses Overwhelms Cypriot Hospitals

Cypriot hospitals are experiencing a surge in childhood illnesses, with an increase in cases of influenza and RSV, as well as a worsening of respiratory diseases. Simultaneously, the General Healthcare System (GHS) continues to face chronic problems, leading to delays in prescription recording, patient admissions, and referrals to other doctors. Pediatrician Dr. Michalis Anastasiadis pointed out that the GHS does not serve either doctors or patients, and despite promises to resolve the issues, the situation remains stagnant. Dr. Anastasiadis emphasized the need for public health measures, such as ventilation, the use of antiseptics, and avoiding contact for children, while noting that vaccination helps in tackling the illnesses. Although the situation is not worse than last year, it requires responsibility and seriousness from all.
