Syka Waives Immunity: What it Means for Investigation

Published January 12, 2026, 08:28

MP Nikos Syka has waived his parliamentary immunity, allowing the Supreme Constitutional Court to lift his immunity. The process for lifting his immunity is scheduled for 11:00 AM. The Prosecutor of the Republic, Polina Evthivoulou, explains that the MP's waiver shortens the process, but a reasoned decision is required from the court. The lifting of immunity is necessary for the police investigation into the assault allegation to proceed, while the withdrawal of the complaint does not affect the obligation to investigate.
