Syria: Immediate Ceasefire on All Fronts Agreed Upon by Al-Assad and Kurdish Forces

The Syrian government and the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), dominated by Kurds, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire on all fronts, following days of fighting as the army advances into Kurdish-held territory in the northeast. The agreement provides for the withdrawal of all SDF forces east of the Euphrates. The agreement also includes the merger of all SDF forces into the Syrian Ministries of Defense and Interior, the handover of border crossings and oil and gas fields to the government, and the removal of non-Syrian leaders and forces linked to the PKK. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad met with the US ambassador to Turkey and stressed Syria's sovereignty over all its territory. The agreement is considered a critical turning point for the unity of Syria.
