Taxi Drivers in Greece to Begin Indefinite Strike

Taxi drivers in Greece will begin an indefinite strike from tomorrow, Tuesday, March 17th, protesting provisions of a new bill concerning electric vehicles, special licenses, and the criminal records of professional drivers. The Athens Taxi Drivers' Union (SATA) has decided on 24-hour strike mobilizations until Friday, March 20th. The drivers are demanding an extension for the transition to electric vehicles, relief for violations of special licenses, and serious operating rules for private cars. The Panhellenic Federation of Taxi Drivers (POEIATA) has scheduled an emergency meeting to decide further actions and mobilizations nationwide. The bill will be discussed by the relevant parliamentary committee tomorrow, Tuesday. Taxi drivers insist on their demands, believing that the proposed provisions are unfair and will create problems for the industry.
