Technical Issue at Larnaca Desalination Plant – Water Consumption Restrictions Advised

The Water Development Department (WDD) is working to resolve a technical issue at the Larnaca desalination plant and is urging consumers and Water Supply Authorities in the districts of Nicosia, Larnaca, and Famagusta to minimize water consumption. The problem at the Larnaca desalination plant, which occurred over the weekend, may result in reduced water supply to the reservoirs of communities and Provincial Self-Government Organizations (PSGOs). Water supply is currently being covered temporarily by the Tsersefanos and Kornou refineries, as well as the Dekelia desalination plant. The WDD assures that every effort is being made to restore the operation of the Larnaca desalination plant as soon as possible. The storage capacity of the reservoirs in the three districts is sufficient to avoid shortages, but responsible water use is essential. Furthermore, it is noted that a similar technical issue occurred at the Vasilikos desalination plant, but was quickly resolved through the coordinated action of the EAC and the WDD. The situation is being closely monitored and citizens are asked to cooperate in addressing the potential water shortage.
