Thailand Accuses Cambodia of Ceasefire Violation – One Soldier Injured

The Thai military accused Cambodia of violating the ceasefire, claiming it shelled a Thai area with mortar fire. One Thai soldier was injured by shrapnel. Cambodia responded that the firing was accidental and assured Thailand there was no intention to attack. The ceasefire was implemented on December 27, 2025, after three weeks of fighting that resulted in 47 deaths and the displacement of approximately one million civilians. Both countries had committed to freezing their military positions and cooperating on demining operations in border areas. The border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia has lasted for decades, with differences stemming from the colonial period. Both sides had previously accused each other of initiating the recent clashes. A previous period of hostilities in July 2025 resulted in 43 deaths in five days. The situation remains fragile despite the assurances and ceasefire.
