The Church Proceeds with Procedures for a New Metropolitan of Paphos

The Church of Cyprus is proceeding with the procedures for the election of a new Metropolitan of Paphos, disregarding the efforts of the former Metropolitan Tychikos to challenge the decision of his dismissal. The Church has already moved past the issue of Tychikos and is focusing on restructuring its statutory charter and electing a successor. The Spokesman of the Holy Archbishopric, Christakis Eustathiou, stated that the Church is not interested in Tychikos's second appeal to the Ecumenical Patriarchate, considering the matter a personal one. The procedures will move institutionally and in accordance with ecclesiastical provisions, after the restructuring of the statutory charter. The Supreme Court had rejected Tychikos's application for an extension of the deadline for filing an application for the issuance of prerogative orders against the decisions of the Holy Synod and the Ecumenical Patriarchate that had declared him deposed. The Church considers the matter closed and is focusing on the smooth operation of the Metropolis of Paphos and its overall administration.
