The Difficult Work of the CMP

The Committee on Missing Persons (CMP) continued its work in 2025, identifying 12 individuals from the official list of missing persons. A total of 20 individuals were found in eight excavations, with further identifications expected. CMP Greek Cypriot representative Leonidas Pantelidis noted that the number of excavations and identifications remains stable annually, but reduced compared to the past. The difficulty in locating missing persons increases over time, as relatives and witnesses pass away. Furthermore, the occupying army imposes restrictions on excavations in military areas, where missing persons may be buried. The CMP urges the public to submit testimonies that may assist in the investigation.
