The 'Hole' in the Map Above the Closed Greek Airspace, Flights from Cyprus Affected

Published January 4, 2026, 10:20

Due to a serious problem with radio frequencies, Greek airspace is temporarily closed, creating a 'hole' in the European air traffic map as displayed on Flightradar. The issue affects all flights to and from Greek airports, as well as flights overflying the Athens FIR. Aircraft already in the air and heading to Greek airports will be landed using manual procedures. The Cypriot Ministry of Transport has issued a statement informing about the closure and its impact on flights to and from Cyprus. Airlines are adjusting flight plans to avoid Greek airspace, and passengers are advised to contact airlines for updates.
