Trump Announces 'Transitional Government' for Gaza – US to Lead Peace Council

Donald Trump has announced the formation of a 'transitional government' for the Gaza Strip, which will be under US leadership. The purpose of this government is to oversee a temporary Palestinian committee, consisting of 15 non-political technocrats, who will take over the management of the daily affairs in the Strip. Ali Saath, a former official of the Palestinian Authority, will head the committee, with the main task of starting the reconstruction of Gaza after two years of war. The Bulgarian diplomat Nikolai Mladenov is being considered to lead the peace council's operations in the field. The council will consist of representatives from the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey. This announcement comes as part of the 'second phase' of the US plan for Gaza, which focuses on the reconstruction of the area. Despite the ceasefire agreement, the situation in Gaza remains difficult, with significant shortages of food, water, medicine, and fuel. US Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkov, emphasized that this initiative aims to accelerate the development of new therapies and improve the detection of side effects, while also ensuring greater transparency in drug approval.
