Trump Claims Capture of Maduro, Announces US Governance Role in Venezuela

Donald Trump announced the capture of Nicolás Maduro and his wife in an operation by the US armed forces, claiming it to be one of the most successful military operations in US history. According to Trump, the operation involved air, land, and sea forces, and the US will continue to oversee Venezuela until a “safe, proper, and sensible transition” is achieved. Trump stated that the US is prepared for a second, larger attack if necessary, and that it will send American oil companies to Venezuela following Maduro’s capture. Maduro and his wife are currently on a US aircraft carrier and are being transported to New York for trial. The US president claimed the operation included a general blackout in Caracas, achieved through American expertise. He also asserted that the operation was more successful than previous attempts, even recent ones in Iran. Trump emphasized that Maduro will be held accountable for drug trafficking and his role in thousands of American deaths. He expressed hope that Venezuela and the US will cooperate in the future to create a safe, prosperous, and independent Venezuela.
