Turkey Launches Scathing Attack on Cyprus and EU, Denouncing 'Atrocities of EOKA'

Turkey is launching a strong criticism of Cyprus and the European Union, reacting to the condemnation of the Turkish invasion and the ignoring of the pseudo-state. Turkish Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Oncu Keceli stated that Ankara rejects the use of the terms 'occupation', 'invasion', and 'division' in relation to Cyprus, arguing that the only 'occupation' is that of the state's institutions by the Greek Cypriot side in 1963. Mr. Keceli accused the EU of double standards, claiming that the disregard for the existence of Turkish Cypriots reveals a lack of respect for fundamental humanitarian values. At the same time, he accused the Greek Cypriot side of abusing the EU Presidency in order to promote its own distorted rhetoric on the Cyprus issue. In a parallel move, the Turkish Ministry of Defense published a provocative post on social media, referring to the 'Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus' (TRNC) as a 'homeland of the heart' and honoring the struggle of Turkish Cypriots and the support of the Turkish army. The post includes references to the 'atrocities of EOKA' and the activities of 'criminal organizations' in Cyprus.
