Turkish Foreign Ministry Rejects Terms of 'Occupation', 'Invasion', and 'Division' for Cyprus

The Turkish Foreign Ministry rejected the use of the terms 'occupation', 'invasion', and 'division' in relation to Cyprus, following events marking the assumption of the Presidency of the Council of the EU by the Republic of Cyprus. The Ministry claims that the only 'occupation' is the violation of the Constitution by the Greek Cypriot side in 1963. Furthermore, it accused the EU of double standards, as it ignores the existence of Turkish Cypriots. It believes that the Republic of Cyprus is abusing its EU presidency to promote its distorted rhetoric on the Cyprus issue.
