UAE Welcomes IMO Decision Condemning Iran's Attacks on Vessels

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) welcomes the decision of the Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) condemning Iran's attacks on vessels and its attempt to close the Strait of Hormuz. The decision is described as contrary to the purposes of the organization and as a serious threat to human life and the marine environment. The IMO also condemned Iran's attacks on states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Jordan, describing them as a violation of international law. The Declaration was submitted by the UAE and co-signed by more than 115 member states of the IMO, highlighting the broad international condemnation of Tehran's actions. The IMO Council calls on Iran to refrain from any action aimed at closing or obstructing navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as attacks on merchant ships. At the same time, it reaffirms the right to freedom of navigation. The UAE also welcomed the adoption of a Japanese proposal to create a maritime security corridor to ensure the safe evacuation of sailors from the area. This decision is considered important for ensuring freedom of navigation and the global economy.
