Ukraine: Allegations of Execution of POWs by Russian Army

Ukrainian prosecutors have again accused the Russian army of executing prisoners of war in the Russian-occupied region of Donetsk. According to the allegations, Russian soldiers transported two Ukrainian soldiers to Sakhove and executed them after forcing them to undress. The prosecutors have initiated proceedings for war crimes. Kyiv has repeatedly accused Russian forces of violating the Geneva Convention regarding the treatment of prisoners of war. Ukrainian authorities have recorded several cases of summary executions of POWs. These allegations add to a long list of alleged war crimes committed by the Russian army during the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Proving and punishing these crimes remains a significant challenge, given the ongoing state of war and the difficulty of accessing the areas where the crimes are alleged to have been committed.
