Ukraine Until… Artificial Intelligence. The Major Challenges for the EU in 2026

The European Union faces a series of significant challenges in 2026, with the ongoing war in Ukraine being paramount. The need to rearm European countries has shifted priorities, diverting resources from the green transition. At the same time, the EU is in an uncertain relationship with the United States while trying to maintain its economic stability. The rapid development of technology, particularly Artificial Intelligence, adds another dimension to these challenges. The EU has agreed to allocate 90 billion euros to finance Ukraine in 2026 and 2027, in order to avoid a deficit of 45-50 billion euros and maintain the country's military production. Negotiations to end the war are taking place under the auspices of the United States, with a 28-point plan that has sparked controversy. However, the prospect of direct talks between Europe and Russia is beginning to emerge.
