US: No Scenario for Activating NATO Article 5 Regarding Turkey

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that US authorities are aware of the specific engagement involving Turkey and the Iranian missile, however, there is no indication that the situation could lead to the activation of NATO's collective defense clause (Article 5). This statement is interpreted as an attempt to limit scenarios of escalation or direct involvement of the Alliance in the current tension. Article 5 of the NATO treaty stipulates that an attack against one member state is considered an attack against all allies, triggering collective defense mechanisms. Hegseth's statement suggests that Washington does not consider the current situation serious enough to activate Article 5. The statement comes at a time of heightened tension in the region, following the exchange of fire between Iran and Israel. Washington is seeking to maintain calm and prevent a wider conflict.
