US Senate Limits New Military Actions in Venezuela – Republicans vs. Trump

The US Senate voted on Thursday in favor of a proposal limiting the military actions of the Trump administration in Venezuela, following the recent raid to arrest President Maduro. The decision passed with 52 votes in favor and 47 against, with support from five Republicans. Although largely symbolic, the proposal marks the first time during Trump's second term that Congress has attempted to restrict the president's use of military force. Some Republicans expressed concerns about a prolonged military presence in Venezuela, while Trump has stated that further attacks may be necessary to gain US access to the country's oil reserves.
