Venezuela in Silence After US Strikes, Maduro Detained

Following US strikes on Caracas and the detention of Nicolás Maduro, the Venezuelan capital has fallen into an eerie silence, permeated by the smell of burning. Streets are deserted, shops are closed, and citizens are forming anxious queues at supermarkets. Armed agents patrol the center and around the presidential palace, where Maduro recently denounced US imperialism. Approximately 500 supporters of Maduro have gathered in front of the palace, demanding the return of him and his wife, who have been transferred to the US to stand trial for "narco-terrorism". Protesters express their anger over the "kidnapping" of their president by the "Empire", while others repeat slogans in favor of the Bolivarian Revolution and Hugo Chávez. At the military airport, planes are blocking the runway, preventing the arrival of new aircraft. The atmosphere is heavy and the city is in a state of anticipation.
