Veterinary Services: No New Cases of Foot-and-Mouth Disease – Culling and Sampling Continue

The Veterinary Services announced that there are no new cases of foot-and-mouth disease in Cyprus, while culling and sampling continue as normal. The second dose of vaccination will begin at the end of March, while vaccines for pigs are expected in Cyprus by the end of March or early April. The culling of cattle in Geri has been completed. Sampling continues to detect possible cases from previous movements, even before February. Epidemiological investigations are being carried out within a radius of 3 and 10 kilometers from the outbreaks, as well as in all provinces. The analyses do not detect antibodies from vaccinated animals. Spokesperson for the Veterinary Services, Sotiria Georgiou, stressed that sampling does not stop and that livestock farmers must follow the instructions of the competent authorities. There are some minor disruptions to the culling due to weather conditions. The Veterinary Services call on livestock farmers to contact them for any questions or concerns, as they are available at any time to provide guidance and assistance.
