What if the Bees Were to Fall Silent...

The article emphasizes the critical importance of bees for the survival of humanity and ecological balance. Bees are responsible for the pollination of 75% of cultivated plants, ensuring the production of food such as fruits, vegetables and nuts. Their disappearance would have catastrophic consequences for global food security and the economy. Besides food, bees play a crucial role in maintaining ecosystems, as they pollinate wild plants and contribute to their reproduction. The loss of bees will lead to the collapse of entire ecosystems and the extinction of plant and animal species. Unfortunately, bees are facing an unprecedented threat today due to intensive agriculture, pesticides, loss of natural habitats and climate change. The situation is so serious that in some areas manual pollination has become necessary, an expensive and ineffective solution. The article calls for immediate action to protect bees and address the factors that threaten their survival. Cyprus, with its rich beekeeping world and unique ecosystems, has a particular responsibility to lead this effort and promote sustainable agricultural practices that respect the environment and protect bees.
