Windy New Year's Day Forecast: Cold Snap and Strong Winds Expected

The Meteorological Service forecasts a windy New Year's Day in 2026, with strong gusts of wind, especially in western and northern regions. Storms and rain are expected to subside on New Year's Eve, becoming limited to the west and north and eventually to the mountains and possibly the occupied territories. Meteorologist Panagiotis Lingis stated that the temperature will drop further on Friday but will rise again on Sunday. The characteristic of New Year's Day will be the wind, not the rain. Saturday and Sunday will see Levant winds (easterly winds), with some clouds on Saturday, but generally clear weather without rain. New Year's Eve afternoon is expected to be cloudy with local showers and isolated thunderstorms, while snow or sleet is likely in the higher Troodos mountains. The winds will be strong to very strong, with temporary increases, and the sea will be generally rough to wavy. Friday will be calm. On New Year's Eve night, the storms will be limited to the west and north. The temperature will drop to around 8 degrees Celsius inland, 13 degrees Celsius on the coast, and 2 degrees Celsius in the mountains, with the possibility of frost.
