Winter Weather Arrives – Yellow Warning for Strong Storms in Effect

A Yellow Warning for strong storms is in effect across Cyprus, issued by the Department of Meteorology and valid from 9:00 PM tonight until 9:00 PM tomorrow. The deteriorating weather is due to a low-pressure system moving southeast of Cyprus, with the arrival of a cold air mass also expected. Tonight, a gradual deterioration is expected with local showers and isolated thunderstorms, initially in the west and gradually across the island. Hail is possible during thunderstorms. Snowfall is expected in the higher mountains, which may be heavy in places, with fog and frost prevailing. Winds will be strong to very strong, with the possibility of strengthening during thunderstorms. Tomorrow, the weather will be mainly cloudy with local showers and isolated thunderstorms. Snowfall will continue in the mountains, with fog and frost prevailing. The sea will be generally wavy to very wavy. The temperature will rise to 14 degrees Celsius inland and 16 degrees Celsius on the coast. The Civil Defence advises the public to be prepared for the adverse weather conditions and take the necessary protective measures. Citizens are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and be particularly careful while driving.
