Yellow Warning for Rain, Storms and Strong Winds – When it Comes into Effect

The Department of Meteorology has issued a yellow warning for rain, storms, and very strong winds that will affect Cyprus from 10:00 PM tonight until 10:00 PM on New Year's Eve. The forecast indicates a combination of phenomena, with the possibility of hail during storms and localized rainfall that may exceed 55 millimeters in 24 hours. Winds will be strong, reaching 6 to 7 Beaufort, and even more intense in some areas. The deterioration of the weather is expected to occur gradually from tonight, with low pressure affecting the island and winds remaining strong until Thursday. Initially, the weather will be partly cloudy, but will gradually become more cloudy with isolated showers, mainly in the west and mountainous areas. Tonight, rain and storms are expected to intensify, with the possibility of snow or sleet on the highest peaks of Troodos. Winds will be strong to very strong, reaching 5 to 6 Beaufort on the coasts and temporarily 7 Beaufort. The sea will be rough and later locally wavy. The temperature will drop significantly, around 8 degrees Celsius inland, 12 on the coasts, and 2 in the mountains. Tomorrow, the weather will remain cloudy with rain and storms, with similar conditions to tonight. On New Year's Day, partly cloudy skies are expected with local showers, mainly in the western half of the island, and the possibility of snow in the mountains. The weather will improve on Friday and Saturday, being mainly clear with occasional local clouds.
