Zelensky and Foreign Officials in Cyprus Ahead of Cypriot Presidency

The President of the Republic will hold bilateral meetings with high-ranking officials from the EU and other countries ahead of the start of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union on January 7, 2026. These meetings will discuss issues such as the coordination of European priorities, the strengthening of Europe's strategic autonomy, security and resilience, as well as support for Ukraine. The scheduled meeting with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, is particularly important, given the critical situation in Ukraine and the need to maintain international legality and protect European principles. The Republic of Cyprus, having experienced firsthand the consequences of invasion and occupation, remains firmly committed to these principles. In addition, meetings will be held with the President of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun, focusing on stability in the Eastern Mediterranean and EU-Southern Neighborhood cooperation, as well as with the Egyptian Minister of Petroleum, representing the President of the country. These meetings highlight the importance of Cyprus as a hub of cooperation in the region. Following the inauguration ceremony, the President of the Republic will host an official dinner in honor of the heads of delegations, where he will have the opportunity to discuss with the Presidents of Moldova and Iraq, as well as other high-ranking officials. The Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU is expected to play a significant role in promoting the interests of Cyprus and Europe.
