AKEL Pushes for Regulation of Land Sales to Foreign Nationals

AKEL is proposing legislation to regulate the sale of land and properties to citizens of third countries, raising concerns about national security and soaring property prices. The party's General Secretary, Stefanos Stefanou, emphasized the need for immediate regulation and expressed optimism for cooperation with other parties and the Ministry. Uncontrolled sales are considered to endanger sensitive infrastructure and areas near the ceasefire line, while also making homeownership more difficult for Cypriot citizens. AKEL believes that control will help curb prices and facilitate access to housing. The discussion in the Parliamentary Committee on Interior began with unanimous agreement on the recognition of the problem.
