Cyprus Warned of Potential Hybrid Warfare

The Republic of Cyprus had been warned of potential hybrid warfare due to its assumption of the Presidency of the Council of the EU, stated Deputy Government Spokesman Yannis Antonios. This warning came from the Information Secretariat of the European Commission three to four months ago. Mr. Antonios called on political parties to be restrained in their comments regarding the leaked video of conversations between associates of President Christodoulides, as more similar videos may follow. The Government believes that the video is likely to have undergone malicious audio and image processing with the intention of creating impressions. A police investigation is underway to determine the authenticity of the video. Mr. Antonios emphasized that the Government will wait for the results of the investigation before taking further action. He also stated that assuming the Presidency of the EU makes Cyprus a target for hybrid attacks, such as the spread of misinformation. When asked if there was information about potential new videos, Mr. Antonios replied that when there is hybrid activity of this kind, it is likely that other similar actions will follow.
