Tax Reform to be Felt by Employees from January

The tax reform in Cyprus is in advanced stages of implementation, with the Tax Department working to ensure a smooth transition to the new tax framework. The new system will be implemented in January 2026, with income tax deductions from salaries made based on the new provisions. According to Tax Commissioner Sotiris Markidis, the reform is expected to lead to a reduction in taxes for all taxpayers, depending on their individual circumstances. The Tax Department is preparing the new form T.F.59, which will be published by January 9, 2026, along with a guide and frequently asked questions for its completion. In addition, a special electronic tool is being developed to calculate income tax under the new system. To inform employers, online seminars are being planned in collaboration with the OEB, while informative events will also be held with the Association of Certified Accountants of Cyprus (SELC). Early information to employers is crucial, as they will need to be informed by their employees about their income and any deductions they are entitled to. The reform includes new deductions and allowances, while also requiring adjustments to the Tax Department's information systems, staff training, and revision of internal procedures and tax audits. The priority is the smooth implementation of the new system and the provision of adequate information to all taxpayers.
