AKEL Demands Answers from Presidential Palace Regarding Allegations of Collusion

AKEL is demanding clear answers from the President of the Republic regarding allegations of a collusion mechanism and illegal funding operating within the Presidential Palace, beyond the resignations of his associates. The party states that the Presidential Palace is avoiding denying a report in the 'Politis' newspaper about a teleconference between Lakotrypi and Charalambous with an “investor”. If the report is true, according to AKEL, the excuse that the government had no connection to Lakotrypi's activities collapses and the existence of a collusion mechanism to serve President Christodoulides himself is confirmed. AKEL calls on the Presidential Palace to respond immediately. The party emphasizes that the statements of the President's associates have enormous political, institutional, ethical, and criminal dimensions and are humiliating the state internationally. It calls on the President to give answers and make admissions before the people. AKEL points out that the institutions responsible for investigating and prosecuting potential criminal offenses are also being judged.
