Cyprus Overhauls Immigration Framework

Cyprus is making significant changes to its immigration legislation, fully aligning with the European Pact on Migration and Asylum, which is binding and must be implemented by June 12, 2026. The bill, approved by the Council of Ministers, provides for the establishment of a Control, Screening, Reception and Identification Center, as well as the screening of asylum applications at airports. The aim is to strengthen Cyprus' operational capacity to deal with migratory pressures, simplify asylum procedures and ensure a fair distribution of responsibilities between member states. The bill also includes special provisions for vulnerable groups, such as minors and people with disabilities, as well as for the creation of appropriate reception conditions for asylum seekers.
