SOPAZ Area Transformation: Sustainability Study Nears Completion

The sustainability study for the SOPAZ area is in its final stages and is expected to be delivered around January 20, 2026. According to the Mayor of Nicosia, Charalambos Prountzos, preliminary presentations are encouraging, and the regeneration is expected to transform eastern Nicosia, benefiting neighboring areas such as Kaimakli, Pallouriotissa, and Aglantzia. The Municipality's vision is to transform SOPAZ into an environmentally upgraded area, a strong hub of economic, academic, and research activity. A central element of the regeneration is the Innovation Zone, which will include offices, laboratories, and residential units, due to the area's strategic location between two universities. The creation of a new school and sports facilities in the area is also being considered. In addition, the Mayor confirmed the examination of the construction of a large conference center. At the same time, the reconstruction of Ammochostos Avenue is considered crucial for the upgrading of the area. The project is urban planning-related and is expected to be completed in approximately 12 months. The Municipality has already included funding for an architectural ideas competition for SOPAZ, in collaboration with ETEK.
