Hope for Dams: Xeropotamos River Flows Again

A glimmer of hope has emerged for Cyprus's water reserves with the resumption of flow in the Xeropotamos River, albeit at a reduced rate. The phenomenon was recorded in Nata on the last day of the year and is delivering water to the Asprokremmos Dam. Despite the small amount of water that has flowed into the Asprokremmos Dam since October 1st (260 thousand cubic meters), the flow of the Xeropotamos River is considered significant given the critical state of the island's dams. The Asprokremmos Dam, the second largest in Cyprus, is currently below 10% of its capacity, as are the other dams on the island. The resumption of flow serves as a reminder of the importance of water management in a year of severe hydrological hardship.
