ISOTITA Union Issues Sharp Statement Against Fytiris: “The Police are Not a Barracks”

The Pan-Cypriot ISOTITA Union issued a sharp statement responding to statements by Minister of Justice Kostas Fytiris, expressing the need to safeguard democratic accountability and emphasizing that the Police should not operate as a “barracks”. The union stresses the importance of distinguishing between military discipline and conscientious legality, while defending the President of the Branch, Nikos Loizidis. Specific reference is made to a telephone conversation between the Minister and the President of ISOTITA, during which extreme expressions were allegedly made, which the union characterizes as an indication of an authoritarian mentality. ISOTITA states that it will continue to defend legality and the dignity of every police officer.
