Path Opens for Primary Residence Protection with Hadjipantela Proposal

MEP Michalis Hadjipantela has achieved a significant victory for borrowers, paving the way for substantial protection of primary residences at the European level, with particular importance for Cyprus. The proposal adopted by the European Parliament's Committee on Economic and Monetary Policy strengthens borrower protection and establishes safeguards for primary residences. The proposal provides for the need for adequate protection of primary residences, especially for vulnerable households, strict application of European consumer protection legislation, prevention of unfair contractual terms and abusive practices, ensuring access to legal remedies, and strengthening supervision and sanctions. Mr. Hadjipantela expressed his satisfaction with this development, emphasizing that it responds to the needs of borrowers and enhances the security of primary residences.
