Heated Debate in Parliament Over Police Working Hours

A heated discussion took place in the Parliamentary Legal Committee regarding the change of working hours for police officers working a shift system. The Chief of Police, Themistos Arnautis, stated that he does not intend to revise his decision, citing Article 8 of the Police Law and the need to modernize the force. However, police unions are protesting the decision as “unilateral” and expressing concerns about its impact on rest, morale, and staff benefits. The President of the Police Branch of the ISOTITA union, Nikos Loizidis, described the decision as “bureaucratic” and announced that the union will appeal to the courts.
