Dubai in Chaos: Tourists Stranded as Attacks Escalate

Scenes of panic and entrapment are unfolding for thousands of tourists in Dubai following the closure of airspace and a wave of flight cancellations, compounded by attacks from Iran. Tourists are being forced to sleep in underground hotel parking lots and makeshift accommodations in nightclubs, describing nights of terror and uncertainty. Videos circulating on social media show damage from drones and debris near luxury hotels. A couple from the United Kingdom, Stacey Gibson and Charles Wright, found themselves at the epicenter of the events, hearing a loud bang and witnessing chaos at the airport with flight cancellations and paralyzed traffic. They were forced to sleep in the underground parking lot of their hotel, near the Fairmont The Palm, which sustained damage from intercepting an aerial attack. They describe a state of constant anxiety, as every sound causes panic. Many guests chose to remain in the parking lot, despite recommendations to return to their rooms. The hotel management, in a gesture of solidarity, extended the stay of several stranded tourists free of charge and provided a room to a family with children. The atmosphere is tense, with people trying to remain calm. Meanwhile, a singer, Denise Waterman, a member of the band Tight Fit, describes a surreal experience, with explosions heard in the background while she and other tourists were in a nightclub under their hotel, which had been turned into a makeshift shelter. The air crisis is considered the most severe since the pandemic, with over 1,500 flights to the Middle East having been cancelled.
