Following recent shooting incidents in Larnaca, the Minister of Justice announced measures to combat crime in a meeting with the Mayor and the Police. These measures include continuous policing, strengthening the police force in the area, and increased patrols. The Minister of Justice, Kostas Fytiris, revisited the Larnaca Police Headquarters to be updated on the investigation's progress, emphasizing the need for persistent effort in tackling organized crime, which he described as a global phenomenon. The Minister stated that he had given specific instructions to identify all those involved in the incidents and announced expedited procedures for the return of foreign nationals who violate the law. Simultaneously, a nationwide operation by the Aliens and Immigration Service and the Police is underway, resulting in 30 arrests so far. Mr. Fytiris appealed to the public to assist in combating crime, even with anonymous information, expressing his understanding of their concerns. He stressed that tackling organized crime, both local and foreign, will be done in every legal way, with the sole aim of ensuring the safety of citizens throughout Cyprus. The Mayor of Larnaca, Andreas Vyras, requested effectiveness in the implementation of the measures and assured that the Municipality would assist in any way requested. The situation in Larnaca has caused significant concern, and the need for immediate and effective action is imperative.
